Many of you who know me, know just how much I love Alberta. When I got the assignment to choose my favourite place, it was a bit challenging. I started off by making a list of places in Alberta, and from there I narrowed it down to one, Waterton. Waterton National Park is a very unique place. From the breathtaking scenery, crystal clear water, beautiful array of flowers, and hikes, it has something for everyone.

There’s something special about Waterton, I can’t put my finger down on what exactly that is. However, I can most definitely tell you that the scenery will make your heart skip a beat. Unlike many destinations, Waterton is unique. It captures the utmost beauty of Alberta, from its roaring waterfalls, to the glass like lakes. There is so much to see in Waterton, and you don’t need to go far, it’s everywhere! I am fortunate enough to live only an hour from Waterton, so I get to embrace the full effect of the jaw dropping scenery on the drive there.

The water, is something special alone. It is as clear as the most transparent diamond. So incredibly refreshing, clean, and pure. There is nothing like jumping into the glacier water after a long, hot day. Living in Alberta I have come to realize just how fortunate I am. Many places in the world do not have access clean water. Often times the water that children will play in will be brown, murky, and filled with dangerous chemicals and diseases that can cause long term health effects. Waterton is somewhere that you don’t need to worry about that, you can bring your children and let them play in the clean water without the worry that it might make them sick.

Close your eyes and imagine you are in a field of wildflowers, the mountains lay in the background and the sunset fills the sky with the most vibrant pink, yellow, orange, purple and blue. Now open your eyes. Wouldn’t that be amazing to be able to see that in real life? Well you can! Waterton is famous for the array of wildflowers offered within the park. Anything from daisies to tansy’s. I personally love flowers, it is one of my highlights each time I visit Waterton. As I have been preparing for Miss Teenage Canada, I’ve began to learn to look at things in a different perspective. A few weeks back I was hiking, and I came across this area that was filled with the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen. As I thought about which flower was my favourite, I simply couldn’t. I couldn’t choose the most beautiful flower, as each one of those flowers was beautiful in their own way. I thought deeper and I began to realize it is just like this pageant. Each and everyone of these girls I am competing with are so unique and incredibly beautiful in their own way. I cannot wait to get to know each of these amazing young women!

There is nothing better than going on a hike in Waterton! You don’t have to be a hiker to enjoy the hikes in Waterton, they have hikes for everyone! They range in difficulty from a short strolls to steep treks of several days duration. Hiking is a great way to set goals, and achieve them. I came across a quote given by Barry Finlay that stated,

“Every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing.”

I found this quote so inspirational, as it is true. Some things may seem impossible, or you feel like it’s better to just give up. Just remember to keep “climbing” don’t give up just because it is hard. In the end it will all be worth it, and at that moment you will realize just how amazing you are no matter who you are.

In conclusion, I’d like to express the love I have for not only Waterton, but for my province. I am so incredibly blessed to have been born and raised in this wonderful Province. It is my home. I love it with all my heart, it makes me who I am, and who I will become. There is no greater joy than to know that I will be representing Alberta at the National Miss Teenage Canada Pageant 2017 in 6 days!! I am so incredibly excited to meet all the amazing delegates, as well as grow from this amazing experience. Until next time..

Yours truly,
