Canadian Tire Jumpstart Car Show

Yesterday I had so much fun volunteering at the Canadian Tire “Jumpstart For Kids” show and shine car show in Lethbridge!

In case you were wondering what Jumpstart is: Jumpstart is a registered charity that helps kids from financially disadvantaged families participate in organized sports and physical activity.

I am proud to say that the show and shine car show at Canadian tire was a great success! All the money raised was donated to jumpstart where it will then be used to help kids in our community!

Not only did I get to spend time with my pageant sisters Grace Linitski, Mackenzie Murphy, and Dakota Sugai, I also had the pleasure of meeting some very inspiring people. One man in particular named Lawrence, touched my heart when he told me the story behind the truck he brought to the car show. His son had been working on the truck for years but wasn’t able to finish it before he died of cancer. In memory of his son he decided to finish the truck. Since then he has won several trophies on behalf of his son.

Needless to say, the day was a success and I wouldn’t change one thing about it. I am so grateful for Angeline from Bells and Bows for arranging for me to volunteer, as well as everyone who made this event possible. It was an amazing day and I can’t wait to be part of many more events to come!

Chinook Regional Hospital

Today was an amazing day! I was given the opportunity to volunteer once again at the Chinook Regional Hospital. The day consisted of planting flowers, providing water to other volunteers, and meeting lots of inspiring people. Today while volunteering I met this lady, she saw me and Grace walking and she waved us over. She told us how proud she was of us for giving our time to our community. We started talking and she told us about this sign that she bought earlier today that said,

“Make today an Amazing day”

As we began to talk more she shared that in a couple of weeks she will be undergoing heart surgery, she expressed her desire to make every day an amazing day. Although we just met, she inspired me. We need to make everyday an amazing day.

I am so grateful for the Chinook Regional Hospital for allowing me to participate in their spring planting, and I would like to personally thank all the volunteers who came today, as well as the spring cleanup on May 12th, without everyone’s help we would not have been able to plant all the beautiful flowers!

Hello from Sarah, Miss Teenage Cardston County 2017

Heyy! Wow I am so excited for this year! I can not wait to get started! I will start off first by introducing myself… Hello, my name is Sarah Maher and I am from Magrath Alberta.  I want this blog to be personal and fun for you all to read. The only way I can achieve this is if you get to know me first.

Some things about me, is that I LOVE chocolate, Nutella s’mores with strawberries are my all time favourite! I’m not even going to get started on my love for ice cream… we could be here a while! My first word was not mom, or dad… it was shoes! I am very flexible, I can do all three splits. I get along with kids very well, as I come from a rather large family. My favourite movies are hands down Disney. A week ago, I went and watched the new Beauty and the Beast movie. Let me tell you, it is one of the cutest movies!

   

I absolutely love being outdoors and hiking! I’m already counting down the days until summer so I can start hiking! (57 days to be exact) I love horses, my grandparents own a horse ranch called Sandy Ridge Stallion Station where I have spent all my summers at, for as long as I can remember! I am very artistic, I love anything from painting, to sculpting. A fun fact about me, is that I can make a bird call with my hands.

I have been to Paris, Dominican Republic, Mexico and numerous States and Provinces throughout North America.  I am an honour student, and I would have to say that math is by far my favourite subject. Although I love chocolate, and ice cream, I like to take care of myself. At night I go on runs, and in the summer I run in the morning. I don’t know what it is, but when you take the time to take care of yourself you feel so good afterwards. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my chocolate!

   

Well now you know a little bit more about me! This year is going to be such a great year! I am so grateful for this opportunity I have been given to represent Alberta this summer in Toronto, since being selected as a finalist I have been given the opportunity to fundraise for both “Free The Children” and “Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Society” I am so excited to see what this year has to hold for me, and I am so excited to see you all at my public event appearances!
